Queen of Wands - lover of life
Offering for the Full Moon occurring 12 February 2025 (AEST)
An androgynous feminine figure with red hair sits wide-legged on a throne that sits on a platform. She wears a long, flowing, yellow dress and, a white cloak held together by a red, lion-faced clasp at her chest. Her crown is golden with a wreath of green leaves. She holds a long sprouting wand in her right hand and a sunflower in her left hand. The throne has carved lions on the armrests, and engravings of red lions and flowers on the back. A black cat sits directly in front of her. Yellow peaked sand dunes are in the background before a clear blue sky.
The Queen of Wands (and VIII Strength) from the Rider Waite Smith tarot
Right before I drew this Queen, the Strength card flipped and unflipped in the deck. I paused, saw and noted it, wondered if that was this moon’s card … then continued to shuffle (for a while !) … before the Queen of Wands showed herself.
I’m not going to talk about the Strength card today - but I can’t unsee it. Observing the cards side by side speaks to a relationship - there’s similar energy between the two in colour and attitude … lions … and levels of messaging! As we work with Queenie - I’ll use Strength as background for today’s explorations, where it represents the archetypal and universal experience of feminine power in action - inner passions tamed for great inner strength and transformation.
How does feminine strength show up in my life? How is that strength different from other ways of being strong?
But … back to the Queen of Wands. The court cards in the tarot speak to personalities, roles, and characteristics that are aspects of ourselves or people in our lives.
So unlike the archetype, the Queen of Wands-Fire is a more tangible figure of feminine authority who governs creativity as energy, passion, and inspiration. She is a supreme leader of this realm whose talent is in the receptivity, understanding and appreciation of life. (compare; the Kings’ leadership role which is in expression, action and social roles).
But this isn’t to suggest this Queen receptivity is passive or weak. And also, despite being of fire - she is not hot, or impatient, but warm as shown in the tender face, yellow dress, and the growth in her crown - despite the heat.
She’s a little extraverted and playful - what’s with the sunflower?
Magnetic - even animals gravitate
And ambitious, steady and assured - I love how she sits planted on her throne, upright and alert. Legs apart - Taking up space! She loves and appreciates life. She feels it.
How connected do you feel to these qualities within yourself? What would feeling and embodying these qualities look like expressed through you?
Who in your life seems to embody the Queen’s personality?
All the Queens naturally symbolise aspects of the feminine - including the nurturing qualities of a mother archetype, and this friendly Queen of Wands might encourage your growth through living life! to follow a passion, begin a project, or tap into the confidence to be more social, playful or sassy.
What creative or social endeavour have you been thinking about? Is it time to take a step?
Her way of femininity also feels very androgynous to me.
Unlike the other Queens who embody more distinct feminine traits, the Queen of Wand’s boldness, extraversion, directness, and loudness (I hear her voice as warm but deep, clear and resonant) places her comfortably holding masculine energy.
Even the element of fire is symbolic of action, so masculine. Even her face, while beautiful has an angularity that leans androgynous.
How might I experience masculine qualities - in me - in a unified way? How does this blend with my other qualities to support me?
I feel this swings back to Strength - where the Queen of Wands is directing us to source a new kind of power - to feel into and play within our everyday interactions. In particular how we can live our lives, moment to moment more creatively, passionately and authentically.
How might the Queen of Wands influence you to live boldly, and creatively from a deeper core of strength and passion?
Much love
Mendy xx
