Trauma Therapy

My approach to trauma therapy is a body-centred process: Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR).

DBR is a highly specialised process for working with trauma and psychological injury.

DBR is not a narrative therapy. It’s a body-centred process and approach for healing trauma at the deep brain level, where initial threat orientation and brace/shock experiences can keep people reactive or hyper-vigilant and stuck in a bio-psychological trauma loop.

DBR works precisely with the neuroanatomy of the brain stem to clear shock, re-establish healthy orienting, and allow the natural flow of responsivity to return to your mind-body system.

It is steady and gentle. Its transformative effect occurs through the shift in how you see yourself and the world - it is a perspective-altering treatment for trauma.

Deep Brain Reorienting can be for specific or situation-related trauma (PTSD or complex PTSD) or attachment trauma, which might not be connected to a particular memory and instead experienced as a general or vague sense of aloneness, shame, grief, fear or anger and /or chronic relationship issues.

I see people online (via video or phone) from Brisbane, Australia.

  • Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) is for people who wish to work through a specific event or situation-related trauma (PTSD or complex PTSD) or attachment trauma.

DBR might also be appropriate for those who have done a lot of narrative work or therapy and have deep self-awareness but continue to feel “stuck” or hold a vague sense of something “wrong”.

DBR can also be woven and integrated into Holistic Psychology and Soul Work sessions.

Mendy recommends weekly integrated sessions (e.g Holsitic psuchology + DBR) intially (for 4-6 sessions) before extending to fortnightly, monthly then ‘maintenance’ sessions.

  • For DBR, 3 to 6 sessions is recommended.

I find it helpful to weave focused Trauma Therapy-DBR with Holistic Psychology sessions to support integration and consolidation.

A weekly combination of DBR-Holistic Psychology sessions can have a powerful effect before extending to fortnightly/monthly sessions.

Longer term clients (after 2 years) can benefit from regular check-in’s every 2 - 3 months.

  • Initial session: $270 (50 mins)

    Ongoing sessions: $250 (50 mins)

*Medicare (Australian Residents Only) or your private health fund may partially rebate these sessions.
